About Me

Hello Fellow Moms! I’m Shannon and I married a really cool guy back in July of 2011 and he’s been taking me on adventures ever since. Ever seen The Greatest Showman? That song Tightrope…..yeah….that’s our life! (Minus the whole me giving up a relationship with my parents and him almost cheating on me. Thank God – we have an awesome relationship with my parents and he’s never attempted to cheat on me. So that’s good.)

My dream as a girl was to be a mom and be able to stay home with my kids (that’s what my mom did). Hubby’s first response to that was “doesn’t that seem kinda lazy?” Well 3 kids later, he’s found that stay at home moms are by no means lazy and he says he’d much rather go to work than try to do my job everyday. So I’m living my dream, and it’s not very glamorous! But I absolutely love it, most days.

My husband’s dream has always been to be an entrepreneur so in 2016 we bought a chemical company with another amazing couple and his dream began to take shape. Also, not always glamorous, but he loves it! I’m learning how to jump on board and walk this tightrope with him. My favorite line of that song is “It’s all an adventure that comes with a breath-taking view, walking a tightrope with you.” Sure, it’s a bit scary being your own boss, never sure if you’ll get paid next month or not. But we’re learning to trust God and support each other in the process.

So blogging – It all started after Christmas 2018. I spent too much money! I mean, didn’t we all?! Well maybe you didn’t but I can get out of control at Christmas. The spending doesn’t seem to count because it’s for gifts that I’m blessing people with and we have to have food on top of food covered in more food during the holidays, right!? So I resolved to spend less this year.

Ok, I’m not super big into new year’s resolutions. I’ve found that if I make them, I break them. I just hate the pressure! So instead of calling it a resolution, I’m calling it a challenge. I decided to try to only personally spend $300 in the month of January. And I made it with $20 to spare! I definitely didn’t expect to succeed but it’s inspired me to maintain a low budget all year! Yikes! Here we go.

This is such a huge area in our lives. Budgeting! I cringe when my husband brings it up. It’s almost like a curse word to me. But I’m going to get better at it this year. I’ve heard one of the main areas of struggle and strain on a marriage is finances. And I’m going for an awesome and strong marriage here so we gotta get this area under control as much as possible.

I’m excited to journal through the process. I’m sure I’ll have cool successes and enough failures but hopefully we will all be inspired through the journey to pay closer attention to our spending and have more stress-free lives and marriages because of it.

Because this challenge was so much fun, I’ve decided to do a new one each month ranging from marriage to Bible, from friendships to parenting.

I hope you’ll personalize this journey to fit your family and I pray you have a blast and have tons of success.
